As I Had Imagined

2026 & Ongoing, New York, Digital Photography on Leica Q2

There was a time when photography belonged to a future I had yet to inhabit. I purchased the-dream-camera, the Leica M6, around the time I decided that photography was something I wished to pursue seriously. In retrospect, the camera became something of a physical affirmation of that decision, accompanying the years in which much of what I hoped for remained conditional.

Years later, I sold it and acquired a Leica Q2.
By then, I had moved to New York to study photography, finding myself within circumstances I had once only imagined.

As I Had Imagined is an ongoing collection of photographs made during this period. Rather than attempting to document the city as a place, the series considers the peculiar distance between anticipation and experience, between a life imagined and one presently inhabited.

The photographs are neither confirmations nor contradictions of what I had envisioned. They are really just pieces of a present that once belonged to a future. Through them, I find myself questioning whether an imagined destination can ever truly be arrived at, or whether the act of arriving inevitably alters what was imagined.
