A Conversation
A Conversation
2025. Dual Channel Video
A Conversation is a dual-channel video work that explores differences in perspective, both physical and linguistic. The piece documents a walk through Chifeng Street, a location I used to visit frequently, filmed simultaneously by a friend and me, each using a sports camera. His camera is mounted on his backpack straps, while mine is handheld, supported by my palm.
As we move through the street, the work captures clips of seemingly goalless conversation. Within these moments, we share thoughts, react to our surroundings, and occasionally point at objects mid-conversation. What appears to be a simple interaction becomes layered when viewed through two perspectives at once.
The dual-channel format allows the audience to experience the same moment from two distinct physical viewpoints. Even when we are engaged in the same conversation or looking at the same subject, the visual framing differs—what one sees, the other may miss. This creates a subtle tension between shared experience and individual perception. The work reflects on how perspective shapes understanding. A conversation is never singular; it exists as a set of overlapping interpretations, shaped by where we stand, what we notice, and how we choose to see.
