Where My Eyes Were
Where My Eyes Were
2026. Single Channel Video
Assembled from footage filmed across different apparatuses, the work began with a recent habit of returning to old videos in my camera roll, perhaps as a way of negotiating with homesickness. Looking through these fragments, I find myself temporarily returning to where my eyes once were.
The footage does not follow chronology. Different cameras, places, and circumstances interrupt one another, allowing one moment to arrive before another has properly ended. I think memory operates similarly.
The work follows the unstable way I seem to return to the past: out of sequence, through different apparatuses, with absences in between. Perhaps homesickness is less a desire to return to a particular place than a repeated attempt to occupy, however briefly, a position from which I once looked.
